I've been playing with this tool https://output.jsbin.com/gojecoh using various G25 modern and ancient scaled individuals and averages. It's kind of addicting seeing which combos provide the smallest distances
Modern scaled averages was
0.01483 Mitchell_scaled = 73% Ireland + 27% Germany
0.01498 Mitchell_scaled = 66% Scotland + 34% Denmark
0.01498 Mitchell_scaled = 55% Holland + 45% Ireland
0.01503 Mitchell_scaled = 66% Holland + 34% Iceland
0.01518 Mitchell_scaled = 61% Scotland + 39% Holland
0.01532 Mitchell_scaled = 74% Scotland + 26% Norway
0.01532 Mitchell_scaled = 52% Ireland + 48% Denmark
0.01567 Mitchell_scaled = 100% Scotland +
0.0157 Mitchell_scaled = 60% Holland + 40% Denmark
0.01572 Mitchell_scaled = 65% Holland + 35% Norway
0.01587 Mitchell_scaled = 70% Iceland + 30% Belgium
0.01589 Mitchell_scaled = 77% Ireland + 23% Sweden
0.01596 Mitchell_scaled = 58% Ireland + 42% Norway
0.01604 Mitchell_scaled = 59% Denmark + 41% England
Even though England makes up most of my ancestry, above it doesn't appear until 17th closest average along with Denmark.
However, both these countries appears 1st when using modern scaled individual samples, In fact it the smallest 2 way distance so far.
0.01100 51% English:England7 + 49% Danish:436
0.01117 56% Orcadian:HGDP00797 + 44% English:England11
0.01175 54% Irish:Irish55 + 46% Norwegian:GSM1550631
0.01193 60% Norwegian:GSM1550631 + 40% Dutch:GSM1633936
0.01199 54% Dutch:GSM1633996 + 46% Irish:Irish44
0.01226 51% Dutch:Netherlands7 + 49% Icelandic:NA15758
0.01247 51% Norwegian:NOR101 + 49% French_Nord:N_64
0.01253 56% English:England9 + 44% Icelandic:NA15762
0.01254 66% Danish:GSM1985711 + 34% French_Brittany:Rennes_B_6
0.01270 61% Scottish:Scottish24 + 39% Dutch:Netherlands56
Closest ancient scaled average. The German Saxons are genetically very similar to the English Saxons
0.01323 Mitchell_scaled = 82% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 18% England_LIA_o
0.01336 Mitchell_scaled = 79% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 21% England_IA_ERoman.SG
0.01349 Mitchell_scaled = 88% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 12% Wales_MBA
0.01351 Mitchell_scaled = 92% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 8% England_Northumberland_EBA.SG
0.01359 Mitchell_scaled = 93% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 7% Russia_Petrovka
0.01368 Mitchell_scaled = 94% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 6% Russia_Andronovo.SG
0.01370 Mitchell_scaled = 85% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 15% England_MIA_lowEEF
0.01372 Mitchell_scaled = 84% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 16% England_Scorton_Anglian
0.01372 Mitchell_scaled = 85% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 15% Netherlands_Friesland_Saxon_Medieval
0.01373 Mitchell_scaled = 97% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval + 3% Latvia_LN_CordedWare
0.01375 Mitchell_scaled = 59% England_IA.SG + 41% England_IA_EarlyMedieval
Closest ancient scaled individuals. Like the almost 50/50 split in moderns between Danes and English, there appears an almost even split between Danish Vikings and English Saxons.
0.01205 Mitchell_scaled = 75% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I11585 + 25% France_Occitanie_IA2.SG: PT2.SG
0.01216 Mitchell_scaled = 58% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval:SWG001.A + 42% Iceland_Viking.SG:VK123_noUDG.SG
0.01231 Mitchell_scaled = 53% Denmark_Viking.SG:VK368_noUDG.SG + 47% England_Saxon:HAD017
0.01277 Mitchell_scaled = 58% Denmark_Viking.SG:VK368_noUDG.SG + 42% Hungary_Langobard.SG:SZ15.SG
0.01282 Mitchell_scaled = 55% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I3044 + 45% England_EarlyMedieval:I14542
0.01285 Mitchell_scaled = 67% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I0157 + 33% Germany_BellBeaker:I0113
0.01296 Mitchell_scaled = 52% Iceland_Viking.SG:VK123_noUDG.SG + 48% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I3044
0.01309 Mitchell_scaled = 53% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I3044 + 47% England_MIA:I20589
0.01311 Mitchell_scaled = 61% Iceland_Viking.SG:VK123_noUDG.SG + 39% England_EastYorkshire_MIA_LIA:I12414
The combo in green above comes from the same study. I14542 has almost exclusively Western British and Irish (WBI) ancestry and no Continental Northern Europe (CNE) ancestry, basically indicating a pre-Anglo-Saxon immigration ancestry. So a 55% CNE, 45% WBI split.
Using ancient individual samples. Top one similar to the above mentioned CNE/WBI split
0.01311 Mitchell_scaled = 50% England_MIA:I13727 + 50% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I0157
0.01311 Mitchell_scaled = 52% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I0157 + 48% Hungary_Conqueror_Commoner:SH-106.SG
0.01312 Mitchell_scaled = 62% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I11585 + 38% France_Sarrebourg_LateAntiquity.SG:R11552.SG
0.01314 Mitchell_scaled = 55% Sweden_Viking.SG:VK42_noUDG.SG + 45% England_EarlyMedieval_Saxon:I0157
0.01319 Mitchell_scaled = 59% Iceland_Viking.SG:VK123_noUDG.SG + 41% England_Saxon:HAD017
0.01322 Mitchell_scaled = 58% England_Saxon:HAD009 + 42% Czech_BellBeaker:I7249
0.01325 Mitchell_scaled = 64% Germany_Schleswig_Saxon_LMedieval:SWG001.A + 36% England_LIA:I14096
I joke alot about being gentically "North Sealandic", but maybe it's more like English Danelaw based on the above.
I'm curious what the rest of you get.
