Most Lodi (most oif the samples here are from 23andme and not deeper tested than just Q1b) are likely going to fall under Q1b-L717 https://discover.familytreedna.com/y-dna/Q-L717/tree

Based on TMRCA around 1500-2000 BC with South Asians from Sri Lank to Bangladesh it likely is related to Bronze Age Indo-Aryans and before to a Steppe Maykop-Central Asian Steppe EBA group that was absorbed by Indo-Iranians.

All tribal Pashtun groups share R1a-YP413>YP1123 (TMRCA around 0 AD!) which makes in general around 40% of Pashtun Y-DNA. It split from Iranics like Kurds in 1500 BC and likely is linked to Alakul movements into SC Asia. Another clade found in lower frequencies in basically all bigger Pashtun subgroups is R1a-L657 (both Y6 and Y7) but these are multiple and diverse clusters splitting often already in 2000 BC from each other so L657 in Pashtuns has different sources and histories. But ultimately it will be linked to earlier Bronze Age Indo-Aryan groups of SC Asia and South Asia.

On the otherside R1a-Z2123 was so far only found in private Ghilzai samples where it shows a high frequency of around >10%. It likely will show up in other Pashtun groups especially Matizai (Lodi, Sarwani) but is probably lower in frequency than R1a-YP413 and R-L657 if we take all Pashtun groups together. The Z2123 clades in Ghilzai show a similar distribution and charater to R-L657 and Q1b-L717 (TMRCA of 1500-2000 BC shared South Asians and absence/very rare west of Afghanistan) so likely also related to Fedorovo and Indo-Aryan groups predating Iranics.

The one region which is really of interest was Khost sample, who had a profile more akin to something between Kalash and Rors, im sure the greater Paktia region has interesting Y dna. Of your samples what Y dna did samples from this region have typically.


Interestingly Pashtuns have much more archaic West Iranic Y DNA than Tajiks. It must be ancient because, most Pashtuns don't have much later Plateau Iranian ancestry , compared to many Tajiks or Uzbeks, which would make sense they were rural/semi nomadic people for the most part.

The Ghilzai from that region are probably something like 70% R1a for now. The Karlani on the otherside something like 70% G2b (have also multiple samples from the Karlani tribes of the region). Both are probably medieval founder effects. But the question for Ghilzai what kind of R1a this actually is. A large chunk would be Pan-Pashtun R1a-YP413>YP1123 but based on private samples Z2123 is unusual high in Ghilzai compared to other Pashtuns (have not seen it yet in other non-Ghilzai Pashtuns). Also you have R-L657 higher in some subtribes there. But most of my samples are just from 23andme or myheritage and just got predicted as R-M198 so could be anything. 

Looking at non-G2b Karlani Y-DNA beside Iranic R1a-YP413 you probably get T1a (seen in some Abdali from Khost), R-L657 and Q1b( like Q-L717) and these lines are also found in Niazi and Tajiks/Sayyid around Kabul/Paghman so might have played a bigger role in Central Pashtunistan before these founder effects

Beside some basal YP413 most Pashtun Iranic R1a-YP413>YP1123 is very very young just with TMRCA around 0 BC. On the otherside Z2123 and L657 in Pashtuns, Balochs, Tajiks and so on has many different clusters splitting around 1000-2000 BC (what makes it also hard for me to find matches for my R-L657). Other said frequency of Iranic R1a is very high (probably highest of any modern group) but diversity of pre-Iranic R1a is still very high. So looks like this Iranic Herder R1a-YP413>YP1123 groups was very small untill historic era and than replaced quickly lot of other groups in and around Suleiman Mountains (before you would see much higher Z2123, R-L657 and Q1b in the region)
