Now Defunct Y-DNA Testing Companies
#1
Aside from BritainsDNA, whose customer I was, what are some of the other Y-DNA testing companies that no longer exist?

I can think of at least one, Relative Genetics, whose standard test was a 32-marker Y-DNA STR test. As I recall, it was a pretty good, reliable company. Am I wrong in thinking that Relative Genetics was swallowed up by AncestryDNA? If so, what happened to all that Y-DNA STR data? I guess AncestryDNA is just sitting on it.

Were there other companies out there I am forgetting? I seem to recall there was at least one more, but maybe I'm misremembering.

Any old timers here who tested with Relative Genetics? I never did.

I guess I was right about what happened to Relative Genetics, but it happened a lot longer ago than I thought.

That's right. Of course, the testing was done by FTDNA, and one had the option of transferring the results over to them; which is what I did with my dad's Geno Project results. FTDNA already had his sample in cold storage, so when I ordered Family Finder for him later, he didn't have to submit a fresh sample.

I doubt that FGC, Full Genomes Corporation. still exists or working with Y-DNA tests. The website is still working, but people have reported that their orders have been cancelled.

Oxford Ancestors
Sorenson, absorbed by AncestryDNA
GeneTree, absorbed by AncestryDNA
AncestryDNA itself, which had two eras of Y-STR matching. I dont remember the first one.

FTDNA absorbed at least one company. DNA Heritage

Genebase is apparently still around

Some 5-10 years ago I distinctly remember this cladefinder tool that predicted my Y-dna haplogroup down to S47... and possibly, likely even Z44 but my memory is a bit hazy. It seems nowhere to be found now. I used my 23andme or Ancestry Dna raw data.

I have no memory of what it was called. It possibly may have disappeared.

I don't think it was even that though, because that one only predicts me at R1b-U152

Did I read that Geneanet will soon be absorbed by Ancestry?

Geneanet was absorbed by Ancestry a couple of years ago. About two months ago, they dropped DNA testing, rather abruptly.

I think the Genealogical part of Geneanet is doing okay.

Ancestry has a history of acquiring sites and then eventually closing them down.

There is Morley, although YSeq is usually considered the better of the two
