Proto Saami was apparently spoken somewhere near lake Ladoga and it probably was one of the languages based on Walter Lang's so called West Uralic continuum of B-languages, Finnic being an example of the languages of the West Uralic A-lineage. It is possible that Meryanic and related languages such as Muromic were also based on the same linguistic B-continuum, they at least seem to share some sound changes vs. the West Uralic original forms.

Saamic however in the North was affected by a sizeable, non Uralic related linguistic substratum. So, we may say that part of the genetic ancestors of Saami were living further North. The BOO samples however are apparently partly based on Neolithic West Siberian admixture, so they hardly can't be among those ancestors, as modern Saami don't have WSHG or anything related to that. Maybe the northern genetic substratum were just local HG's, speaking their nowadays extinct languages still in the first centuries of the first milllenium, during the Samification of the North.
