I got the update. I was surprised, since mine is an FTDNA v1 upload.
My original MH estimate was absurd.
I am mildly shocked. The update is actually pretty good. Its similar to the Ancestry numbers, but a little better.
My English dropped from an absurd 94% to 38%, which is a now a bit low. (My tree suggests 60-65%)
My German(ic) increased from Zero to 17%. At least I can see some now. (My tree suggests over 30%).
~~~~~~
OTOH, my mother's is rather odd and it will be hard to reconcile with mine (e.g. She now has zero English, formerly 93%).
Has anyone gotten an update who tested directly with MH? Of the 4 kits I manage, the only one that updated was an upload from AncestryDNA. The other 3 - all swab tests - haven't updated. Is this the case in general?
I tested with a swab test in 2018.
4 of my 7 transfer kits have updated.
Generally I would say it's much better than the previous version. The big glaring miss though is that they have me as 100% English, while they have my father as 50% Scottish and Welsh (the latter is correct). I find it weird they have one category for Scottish and Welsh and another for Breton. Wouldn't Welsh go better with Breton as they are both Brythonic languages?
Actuality is I’m about 25% French, 32% % EE.
But the components seem correct, glad to see the picked up some Danish - a bit low but better than no Scandinavian. They eliminated the Irish I had as well - way too much at 18%.
It’s a work in progress, we’ll see what my other kits end up with. My grandma should be 100% French similar to LDNA. I’ll be sure to post when the others are updated.
My 23andMe kit updated, still waiting on my swab test.
Germanic 39.4%
EE 37.8%
Baltic 12.9%
Danish 5.5%
French 2.3%
Breton 2.1%
Better than my Ancestry kit. Seems like they have issues between French German and Scandinavian. Maybe my swab kit will be best ?
Still waiting for my mom and grandparents to update.
Grandma
France 65.3%
Spanish Catalan and Basque 15.6%
Breton 10.2%
English 8.8%
Not too bad for grandma - central French. I’ll check my mom’s later, we’ll see what half looks like.
My kit upload was just updated - previously I was 32.2% English (which aligns closely with my known genealogy) with some traces of Scandinavian (c. 4.4%), and my Nord-Pas-de-Calais/Belgian paternal ancestry (+ presumably trace Dutch) was represented by the "North and West European" category (56.6%) + small amounts of Iberian and Central Asian. The update has provided me the following breakdown:
87.6% English
9.6% Breton
2.8% French
Somewhat disappointing that the update has conflated my Nordiste and Pas-de-Calaisien ancestry with English, but I guess it conforms to the fact I skew toward English and Armorican samples in G25? I definitely do not have Breton ancestry (certainly not that high), but I just chalk that up to SW English influence
Mom's results just came in: 95.3% Ashkenazi Jewish (USSR) and 4.7% Syrian Jewish. In reality she's 3/4 Ashkenazi (Ukraine) and 1/4 Sephardic (Turkey), so this is somewhat logical, but I don't understand why they couldn't have been bothered to create an Eastern Sephardic (esp. Greek/Turkish) category. There's obviously going to be a bit of overlap between Ashkenazi and Eastern Sephardic regardless, but since they went to the trouble of creating so many, very specific, Jewish categories, that seems like an odd oversight. Also, considering a very large percentage of diasporic Jews from the former Russian Pale of Settlement left either before the USSR even existed or after it collapsed, that seems like a bit of a misnomer, but maybe I'm hairsplitting.
