Knuckle dragger? Your Neanderthal DNA at 23andMe

They gave DNA percentages for Neanderthal and Denisovan... actually that's where I first discovered my ydna haplogroup U106 and mtdna T2b2b. For what it's worth I had 3.5% Neanderthal and 2.4 % Denisovan in that test. Haven't tested any where else that tests that sort of thing that I am aware! Cheers!

My dad tested with the Genographic Project way back when, but I don't remember his Neanderthal percentage. I transferred his results over to FTDNA, but FTDNA doesn't show all the details the Geno Project did, and the Geno Project web site is no more.

I tested at Geno 2.0 with Helix.
Average is 1.3%. I got 1.5%

I also tested with Insitome, again via Helix. 1.7%

I have a 23andMe v3 test. 283 variants out of 780 or so. Below Average as 70% have MORE.

In Living DNA:

Your neanderthal score is 342
2.15% Neanderthal

Denisovan Score: 131
0.23% Denisovan

I finally did 23andMe and I get:

Hey ---!
You have more Neanderthal
DNA than 81% of other
customers.

You have <2%
Neanderthal DNA

You inherited a small amount of DNA from your Neanderthal ancestors. Out of the 7,462 variants we tested, we found 262 variants in your DNA that trace back to the Neanderthals.
All together, your Neanderthal ancestry accounts for less than ~2 percent of your DNA.

I believe I've found a couple people under 11% who were distant cousins, but it's been rare to find.

I hadn't looked at 23andMe for some time but tonight I see that "You have more Neanderthal DNA than 97% of other customers."' I've slipped down the rankings a touch since 2015 when I was in the 99th percentile.

I'm a big fan of our Neanderthal ancestors and nearly 10 years ago visited the wonderful museum at the eponymous site in Germany with my wife and kids.

I remember we had the opportunity to have our pictures taken there using an algorithm that "Neanderthalises" your profile, giving you one image of yourself as your normal Homo sapiens self, with another as you might look if you were Homo neanderthalensis.

Much to my family's amusement, my "Neanderthal" image wasn't much changed. But my then very little daughter's twin images were spectacular and I still use them as the pic that flashes up whenever she phones me.

EDIT: here's a trimmed image of my daughter's Neanderthal self. She and her modern human alter ego (with longer, straighter forehead and more pronounced chin etc) are facing each other, staring into each other's eyes on the full pic. Cleverly done.

That's one of the highest neanderthal numbers I've seen. Do you have any East Asian genetics? I have more neanderthal DNA than only 11% of customers so I'm curious what everyone's autosomal results are when they have numbers so high.

Good question muttgenes and I should have said. I have no detectable non-European ancestry in my genetics or in my paper tree. 23andMe has me at 88.3 percent British and Irish, 8.8 percent French and German, 2.6 percent Scandinavian and 0.3 percent Broadly NW European.

Me 81% and Idk the reason because I have 1/3 of Indigenous American heritage, so in theory I'm supposed to have more than Europeans/European diaspora.
